MAKE TODAY THE BEST DAY EVER FOR YOURSELF AND SOMEONE ELSE!

Welcome to the 2015 - 2016 school year!.

Jefferson School this year, will will continue to strive for outstanding success and retool our teaching practices to meet the growing demands of the world.  Three years ago year we began this shift by adopting and implementing the new Common Core State Standards.  This year our journey continues, as we push our practices further by engaging in learning centered around our 2015-2016 theme.

EXCELLENCE IS IN ALL OF US

I am proud to say that here at Jefferson School we are a community of learners.  Each and every one of us: students, staff and parents, is committed to making each day better than the last and each moment filled with the excitement of scholarship.  We yearn for knowledge, revel in study and celebrate as we reach new levels of wisdom.  This year, we plan to honor this commitment to life long learning by making our research more public, modeling study for our students, learning from one another and encouraging our students to teach one another.  At this point, we are ready to acknowledge our strength as a faculty, student body and community and draw on that strength to catalyze our growth. This year, we plan to celebrate the “Excellence Among Us.”

In Summit, we are fortunate to have rigorous curricula and expert teachers who are skilled in keeping our students engaged.  We differentiate our instruction to meet the needs of our student's readiness and interests.  We expose our students to experiences and allow them innovative involvements.  Of course, this year we plan to continue on this journey of knowledge acquisition with our student charges.  But there is one additional part of learning that we plan to highlight this year:  we want our students to commit themselves to excellence.

As we see it, excellence is not an act.  ItĂs a habit that you develop through practice and perseverance.  We want our students to have the desire to succeed.  We want them to feel an urge to reach their potential.  This year, we are committed to developing our student's dedication to excellence by inspiring an attitude of distinction.  As a staff, we are going to showcase our own strengths and give our students a glimpse into our world as learners as we acquire new knowledge by learning from each other in public.  We hope that this will serve as a model as we connect learning to teaching and teaching to learning.  Then, we plan to teach our students that we are not the only teachers from which they can learn.  In fact, learning is life.  There are lessons to be gained from parents and peers, experiences and contemplation.  We are looking forward to inspiring a passion for striving to know more and do better.  In the end, our goal is for our students to autograph all their work with excellence.

The secret of joy in work is contained in one word: excellence.  To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.  This year we want to connect our hard work and our students's hard work to the joy of success.  This is a gift that we hope our students will carry through their schooling and into life.  We already have everything we need to succeed because there is
“Excellence Among Us.”

Jefferson School enjoys a national reputation for educational excellence, having been honored by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. Our students flourish in a stimulating academic environment that emphasizes literature-based language strategies, process writing, problem solving, critical thinking, manipulative math experiences, and hands-on science and computer instruction.

The parents are a critical ingredient of our school's success as they participate in the teaching/learning process and as enthusiastic supporters of the Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO provides direct support for many of the exciting activities listed below.  Please feel free to visit the Jefferson PTO website at: http://www.jeffersonschoolpto.com/
