Welcome to the Jefferson School!

Principal - Ron Poles

School Day: Begins at 8:15 am and ends at 3:00 pm.

Welcome to another school year, as we embark this the 2013-2014 academic adventure.

Jefferson School this year, will work to redefine our description of success and retool our teaching practices to meet the growing demands of the world.  Last year we began this shift by adopting and implementing the new Common Core State Standards.  This year we plan to push our practices further by engaging in learning centered around our 2013-2014 theme.
“Our Students are the ARC to our future”

The staff at Jefferson School wants you to know that although we're focused on the evolving world, we do not fear this change.  In fact, we embrace it. Winston Churchill said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”  Through our theme, we plan to adjust our practice to provide the very best that education has to offer to our students.  The word ARC in our slogan is an acronym for Authentic Learning, Raising Standards and Cross Content Connections.  These will be our three foci for our learning and teaching.  We plan to provide our students with authentic learning opportunities so they become skilled at interpreting their knowledge and applying their skills in the context of the world.  We want to continue to raise students' standards by using our assessments to set goals and to drive future instruction.  We also plan to teach our students how to monitor their own work and set and work towards meeting their own goals.  We plan on creating more opportunities for cross content connections.  This will enable students to see how they can express their knowledge across disciplines and how all learning is actually interconnected.  We know that these are lofty goals but we also know that it is our responsibility to prepare our students for the future because in fact “our students are the ARC to our futures.”

Jefferson School enjoys a national reputation for educational excellence, having been honored by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School. Our students flourish in a stimulating academic environment that emphasizes literature-based language strategies, process writing, problem solving, critical thinking, manipulative math experiences, and hands-on science and computer instruction.

The parents are a critical ingredient of our school's success as they participate in the teaching/learning process and as enthusiastic supporters of the Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO provides direct support for many of the exciting activities listed below.
